Serves 8-10

Ingredients

Apple Hazelnut Strudel

2 cups Granny Smith apples, cored,
peeled and thinly sliced
1/4 cup maple sugar
1 tbsp lemon zest
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 cup hazelnuts, toasted and ground
10 sheets filo dough (9”x14”)
1/4 cup vegetable oil

Directions

  1. Mix apple slices in bowl with maple sugar, lemon zest, cinnamon and vanilla.
  2. Lightly oil a baking or cookie sheet.
  3. Cut filo sheets in thirds to yield three 3 inch x 14 inch sections.
  4. Take three sheets of filo and brush between each with oil and set on the baking dish.
  5. Do this three times so you have three sections of filo on the baking pan.
  6. Top with sliced apples, then ground hazelnuts, keeping edges clear about 1/2 inch around.
  7. Repeat with another layer of oiled filo, then apples and hazlenuts, then oiled filo, again.
  8. Sprinkle top of filo with maple sugar.
  9. Bake at 350 for 35 to 40 minutes.
