From the Editor

Every day we go to sleep, every day we wake up.

Hopefully we are able to rest when we go to sleep and we’re actually awake when we wake up.

It is said that when the Buddha was asked who he was, he said he was awake.

Fortunately in our lives, we are provided with many opportunities that support our ability to wake up. From participating in regular practice to attending special events, alone or with the support of community, we can experience a moment that wakes us up more effectively than a strong cup of chai.

Tonight the Awareness Film Festival begins their showcase of media representing the environment, social issues, spirituality and more with topics such as food, Krishna Das and veterans’ issues. (Editor Karen Henry provides a preview of some must-see features and shorts.) On Friday night, Yoga Gives Back short documentary will be screened.

While we can’t promise that food can provide enlightenment, you just might catch a glimpse of it at Santa Monica Place for Good Food Fridays where you can taste, mingle, and connect. On Saturday, head to the 3rd Street Promenade for more inspiration at the WellBeing Festival.

No matter where our travels take us throughout the week, may we be fully awake, aware, and inspired.

Rest well and wake up,

Felicia Marie Tomasko

The Anja Chakra is often referred to as the “Third Eye,” representing the opening of wisdom awareness. “Anja literally means ‘command, authority, or unlimited power,’  indicative of the directive power of mental understanding, which, when illuminated with wisdom, opens the door to unlimited spiritual power and vision,” explains Dr. John Casey in LA YOGA’s July/August Chakra Meditation.

The seven-chakra art series was created by Los Angeles based artist and yogi, Arlene Eve Johnson. Each chakra is hand-drawn using Prismacolor pencil on paper. Fine art giclee prints are available at Arlene Johnson Art.
