Lindsey Stirling

Artist Lindsey Stirling

Some people are born with a talent so amazing, it seems to come from another world.  I was recently introduced to a girl with that kind of gift, and was blown away by what I discovered. Lindsey Stirling is definitely one of those people. Several years ago, I worked with the legendary guitarist, Carlos Santana, and Lindsey does with her violin what Carlos does with his guitar…makes it sing!

When I was researching her music and fans, I couldn’t believe what I found. Lindsey Stirling has more YouTube subscribers than Katy Perry or Justin Timberlake. She has racked up over 700 million views on her videos. Her 2014 album Shatter Me debuted at #2 on the Billboard Top 200, which by the way, is a staggering accomplishment, especially for an artist not signed to a major record label.

When she tours, Lindsey’s show is incredibly high-energy, as she spends the entire 90 minutes dancing, twirling, back-bending, twisting, and balancing—all while playing the violin.

Lindsey Stirling, Energy, and Dancing to EDM

All this provides a full workout for her six nights a week. Her dancers have taught her how to stretch  before taking the stage. Another pre-show warm up for her fingers is to play the scales on her violin (just like singers warm up their voice). When home, she loves to put on her headphones and run or dance around the house while listening to EDM (Electronic Dance Music) and some of her favorite artists like The Clash, Cash Cash, Skrillex, Zedd, Paramore, and Ellie Golding.

According to Lindsey, “The way you treat your body is a reflection of how happy you are. It is so important to treat it kindly.” People ask her all the time, “How do you get so much energy?” To which she answers, “I live a very healthy lifestyle. No alcohol, no drugs, no cigarettes, no fried foods, and no caffeine. I try not to pump my body full of chemicals, which just weighs you down.”

Lindsey and the Dancing Violin

If you catch  Lindsey’s live performance you will see there is nothing weighing her down; she has been nicknamed the “dancing violinist” for a reason. Be sure to pick up her latest album and her new single “Shatter Me.” You too will appreciate why I am fascinated with her music.
