Jeff Smith The information necessary to make informed choices about our health and wellness is part of the mission of The HealthKeepers Alliance and the Health Freedom Expo. Jeffrey M. Smith is a global spokesperson on the health dangers of genetically modified foods. His documentary, Genetic Roulette—The Gamble of Our Lives, was the 2012 Movie of the Year (Solari Report) and Viewer’s Choice Transformational Film of the Year (AwareGuide).  Here are three books that this prolific author and activist finds meaningful.

Twisted Genes, Altered Truth

By Steven M. Druker

I’m excited by this page turner, Twisted Genes, Altered Truth: How the Venture to Genetically Engineer Our Food Has Subverted Science, Corrupted Government, and Systematically Deceived the Public,  which exposes in detail how advocates of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) spun an intricate web of lies—to Congress, scientists, reporters, and the public—to get their extremely dangerous products into our food supply and environment. The irrefutable evidence indicts Monsanto, the FDA, and numerous scientists. I think when the complete hardcopy book is released this Summer, it will have readers running from genetically engineered foods. (Ebook: Part One)

GMO Myths and Truths

By Michael Antonio PhD, Claire Robinson, and John Fagan PhD

This online book, which will be expanded and updated in a summer hardcopy release, is the up-to-date and impeccably-referenced manual for winning an argument against GMO promoters. According to this research, GMOs won’t increase yields, feed the world, lower pesticide use, nor help farmers; and they’re not safe nor good for the environment. I’m told that the book’s easy-to-scan layout using summaries and main points was inspired by my book Genetic Roulette: The Documented Health Risks of Genetically Engineered Foods. But whereas mine narrowly focuses on health, this new one covers the full range of GMO impacts. (online only: earthopensource.com)

Assorted medical research linking GMOs with immune, gastrointestinal, and reproductive disorders

In our recent documentary Genetic Roulette, doctors, patients, veterinarians, and farmers describe disorders that improve when humans and animals eliminate GMOs. These disorders afflict lab animals fed GMOs and have been increasing in the US population since GMOs were introduced. I’m now scanning medical literature and working with specialists to show links between GMOs and gluten sensitivity, food allergies, asthma, autoimmune diseases, weight problems, infertility, autism, and GI tract disorders. This topic is not represented by any single book on my nightstand; it’s a convergence of technical papers suggesting that genetically engineered foods may be one of our greatest health disasters.
