May starts off as a study in extremes. This shows the need for personal initiative to be driving our life. By midmonth, planets move into Taurus, bringing more ease and sharing. Then on the last day of the month, Jupiter enters Gemini. All things considered, this could be one of the most transformational months of 2013.

May 1- 4

The month begins with a lot of individuality and self-will, with five planets in Aries. This includes the exalted Sun (long-term vision), Mars (individual actions), and Venus (relationships). Your life might feel like one big “no compromise zone” right now.

May 9

A new cycle of growth begins with the New Moon/Solar eclipse in Aries with Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, and the South Node all in Aries. Destroying the old and making way for the new is a major theme right now. In fact, this has been important since the Sun, Mars and Venus set up camp in Aries on April 13. But now we are ready to hit the ground at full speed. Financial matters could especially prosper now, as Venus and Jupiter are both in Taurus. Also, personal communication and flexibility is important with the close Mercury/Mars conjunction.

This eclipse takes place in the Nakshatra of Bharani, which teaches restraint through consequences. The God is Lord Yama, he who shows up at the time of death and takes the soul where it must go.

May 10 – 12

Romance may be high when the Moon enters Taurus with Venus and Jupiter. This should feel very good and bring a lot of creativity. Yet there may be conflict between personal desires and the deeper meaning and purpose behind your romantic connections.

May 15 – 17

There could be some extreme moods, grouchiness, and depression when the Moon goes through Cancer, aspected by Saturn and Mars. The courage to bust through the old and the need to be protected from the unknown is what drives us now. And it might be driving us a little crazy!

May 20 – 21

We get a sudden rush of inspiration with Jupiter aspecting the Moon in Virgo now. This is also good for studying metaphysical subjects like astrology. Virgo is the literal mind and Jupiter the abstract mind. Life is in the details; let them inspire you.

May 22 – 23

More heavy emotional energy at this time, with the Moon in Libra joined Saturn and Rahu. Both Saturn and Rahu are stressful energies, full of pressure. Being both in Libra, we will feel a lot of this social pressure with our most important relationships. This is especially true since the Moon is almost full and recently eclipsed.

May 24

Emotions intensify with the Full Moon in Scorpio. Not only is the Moon full, but it is also debilitated. In Scorpio, emotions are restless as we try to protect our vulnerabilities and surmount our imagined fears. With the Moon being so bright, it is a good time to face these imagined fears and sink deeper into the source of the heart, true love.

This Full Moon happens in the Nakshatra of Anuradha, which means “following Radha.”  It is deeply connected to devotional practices and creativity. This is a time to show up for others as a friend, rather than with so much attachment to our own emotional needs.

May 29 – 30

Practical growth and material structure is supported now with Jupiter aspecting the Moon in Capricorn. This is a good time to focus on your long-term plans and expanding money matters. You will also want to extend grace to your immediate family and loved ones.

May 31

A new year-long cycle of growth, teachings, and philosophies begins with Jupiter entering Gemini. Jupiter has been in Taurus since May, 2012, connecting us to embodied, spiritual practices. For the next year, Jupiter in Gemini will bring a more intellectual approach to our teachings and philosophies. The next year will be a great time for writing and communication. It is also good for reading inspirational books and for questioning your own belief systems, and toward more intellectual understanding and embodiment.
