<p>I teach yoga to both children and adults, and as a mother of two young boys, aged 6 and 9, I always welcome meaningful suggestions for books related to yoga and meditation. These days we need all of the creative resources we can find for education and entertainment! <a href="https://layoga.com/practice/kids-yoga/kids-yoga-a-primer-for-parents/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kids yoga</a> is such an important stress reliever and something we need in the pandemic and beyond. If you’re looking for some resources to use while reading with kids that allow you to share yoga and meditation, here are some ideas.</p>
<h2>4 Books for Families, Kids, and Teachers</h2>
<p><img decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-22888" src="https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Yoga_for_Children_animal_asanas_opt.jpg" alt="Animal Asanas Book Cover" width="822" height="1118" srcset="https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Yoga_for_Children_animal_asanas_opt-200x272.jpg 200w, https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Yoga_for_Children_animal_asanas_opt-221x300.jpg 221w, https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Yoga_for_Children_animal_asanas_opt-400x544.jpg 400w, https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Yoga_for_Children_animal_asanas_opt-600x816.jpg 600w, https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Yoga_for_Children_animal_asanas_opt-800x1088.jpg 800w, https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Yoga_for_Children_animal_asanas_opt.jpg 822w" sizes="(max-width: 822px) 100vw, 822px" /></p>
<h3>Animal Asanas: Yoga for Children, by Leila Kadri Oostendorp and Elsa Bahia (Prestel Press)</h3>
<p><a href="https://prestelpublishing.penguinrandomhouse.de/book/Animal-Asanas/Elsa-Mroziewicz/Prestel-com/e502245.rhd" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Animal Asanas: Yoga for Children</a> shares 14 introductory asanas that are presented in a highly visual way to inspire children to practice yoga.</p>
<p>The vivid and colorful illustrations of animals are shown in a different yoga posture. For example, there is a brightly colored camel doing camel pose. All of the illustrations are accompanied by step-by-step small stick figure diagrams and written guidance for safely entering the postures. Each posture also has a fun factor with the sounds or movements that each animal makes.</p>
<p>In the introduction to each animal, there is a section on the physical, mental and emotional benefits of practicing each posture. The end of the book offers a rainbow-chakra-guided relaxation filled with affirmations for each chakra. The colors and ornamental patterns that decorate this book are very kid friendly.</p>
<p>Bonus: A free pull-out colored poster with each of the 14 animal postures circling around a central tree.</p>
<p>I like Animal Asanas, it seems approachable to a wide age range, from the accessible cow moo-ing to the younger students to the suggestion that the older kids take some time to relax with yoga before doing their homework. Embodying the animal poses from this book enlivened my teaching to both the children AND the adults.</p>
<p><em>Recommended for ages 5-11</em></p>

<h3>Yoga Friends: A Pose-by-Pose Partner Adventure for Kids, by Mariam Gates and Rolf Gates, Illustrated by Sarah Jane Hinder, (Sounds True)</h3>
<p>When I introduced <a href="https://www.soundstrue.com/collections/authors-mariam-gates/products/yoga-friends" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Yoga Friends: A Pose-by-Pose Partner Adventure for Kids</a> to my two children, I could see them really focus on the material as I led them through the Dora-like wide-eyed, smiling, multi-ethnic pairs of children displaying their partner yoga asanas in a combination of natural settings and city dwellings. What looked static in the book became my kids’ cue to move and breathe as they found the postures for themselves.</p>
<p>This session was a journey for my elementary school-age students. Along the way, we discovered some new postures and had a lot of laughs. Mostly, the temptation to grab some body part of their sibling was too hard to resist.</p>
<p>The goal of these asanas is to have fun coordinating the body and mind with the breath and to develop the skills for teamwork through the partner practices. It is nice to offer a new way to play together cooperatively with the goal of gaining some peace and self-mastery along the way. The bold sentences that decorate the illustrations offer a kid-friendly approach to symbolism and imagery and to guide the alignment and actions that take children through the asanas.<br />
Visually, this is a really fun book just to read. My kids enjoyed looking at the pictures and trying out the postures together.</p>
<p>For my kids, it felt like adding one or two partner postures to a typical yoga class might be an effective way to introduce the teamwork concept—more so than trying to do the whole class as a partner event. Also, I feel it’s important to be selective when partner yoga poses and use of touch are appropriate for kids.</p>
<p><em>Recommended for ages 4-8.</em></p>
<p><img decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-22885" src="https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/MeditatewithMe_opt.jpg" alt="Meditate with Me Book Cover" width="822" height="727" srcset="https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/MeditatewithMe_opt-200x177.jpg 200w, https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/MeditatewithMe_opt-300x265.jpg 300w, https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/MeditatewithMe_opt-400x354.jpg 400w, https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/MeditatewithMe_opt-600x531.jpg 600w, https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/MeditatewithMe_opt-800x708.jpg 800w, https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/MeditatewithMe_opt.jpg 822w" sizes="(max-width: 822px) 100vw, 822px" /></p>
<h3>Meditate with Me: A Step-By-Step Mindfulness Journey, by Mariam Gates and Margarita Surnaite, Dial Books/Penguin Random House</h3>
<p>The narration of this journey follows five different animal friends during their day. <a href="https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/536290/meditate-with-me-by-mariam-gates-illustrated-by-margarita-surnaite/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Meditate with Me: A Step-By-Step Mindfulness Journey</a> offers verbal cues for the reader to try out meditation. Over backgrounds of ocean waves, clouds in the blue sky, cityscapes, and a classroom, we hang out with our new animal friends.</p>
<p>Through these animal relationships, we learn how to breathe into the body to relax, observe the ways different emotions feel in our body, discover how to tune in to the sounds around and within us, and learn how to observe the thoughts coming and going.</p>
<p>One of the techniques shared includes images of the animal characters playing with a jar filled with glitter. They shake the jar and place it down, allowing the glitter to settle. As the glitter settles, we are offered the suggestion that our thoughts and emotions can also settle down if we sit still and watch them. We can then create space both in the rest of the jar and in our heart and mind.</p>
<p>The book is kid-reader-friendly. My six-year-old read it in its entirety; he said felt smart and accomplished because he could read, connect with, feel what the book is asking of him. I imagine any one of the elements offered could be a meditation tool in and of itself, both as an exercise and a thought to be carried through one’s day. One of the final lines sums up the simple and powerful confidence that is instilled through the messages in the book: “Know that this calm place is always just one breath away.”</p>
<p><em>Recommended for kids ages 4-8.</em></p>

<h3>The Want Monsters: And How They Stopped Ruling My World, by Chelo Manchego (Shambhala Publishing)</h3>
<p>This is a modern-day fable about “The Want Monsters”.  <a href="https://www.shambhala.com/the-want-monsters.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Want Monsters: And How They Stopped Ruling My World</a> is brilliantly crafted by author Chelo Manchego, a 24-year-old artist and meditation practitioner from El Salvador, who currently lives in Los Angeles. The central character’s personal “Want Monster” looks like a brown paper bag with legs and wearing a crown, “cos he wants” to be famous. The Monster changes size according to the amount of “Wants” he has.</p>
<p>Given today’s consumerism-based mentalities that “more is better” and “if this is good you’ll want more”, this book could not be more timely. It teaches children, and the rest of us, that more is not necessarily better. And that listening to your inner wisdom is more helpful than always trusting our personal “Want Monster” and making it grow.</p>
<p>By the end of the book, we learn tools to keep the Want Monster in its place, cultivate how we can listen to it when necessary, and basically keep it in our pocket for emergencies. We learn to treat our Want Monster more as a friend than as something terrorizing our lives and those around us. The teachings are so necessary in order for children (and all of us) to keep a check on their values, happiness and yes “wants”.</p>
<p>After reading, I asked my children the following day what they enjoyed about the book and the lessons they learned. Rhoads, age 6, said, “He doesn’t have to listen to all his wants now and that it would be okay to think before you say what you want.” Chaska, age 9, said he is more mindful of his wants now and thinks about the consequences of his choices. “I might want to eat the whole cake, but how will I feel afterwards? So perhaps I’ll feel better if I eat just a slice, that way I won’t feel sick.” Both children enjoyed the story and loved the illustrations.</p>
<p>They also loved the blank page at the end of the book where they were invited to draw their own personal Want Monster. They also liked how through reading a story they heard the message that gave them coping skills.</p>
<p><em>Recommended for ages 4-6.</em></p>
<h2>Reading with Kids: Books About Yoga</h2>
<p>What I enjoyed in all of the books is that the messages both adults and children need to hear are pretty similar. The simplicity of the mindfulness practices should not be overlooked or understated. Coming together to practice can be fun. Making a story the vehicle for the teachings is a great idea. If you need some new inspiration for your classes and your kids, try out some of these resources.</p>

<h1>Stephanie Carlin: Reclaiming Breath, Voice, and Mantra</h1>
<p><a href="http://stephaniecarlin.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Stephanie Carlin</a> has long been a performer and singer-songwriter. But it wasn’t until four years into her daily asana practice at <a href="https://jivamuktiyoga.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Jivamukti Yoga</a> in NYC that she fully accessed her breath and the power within it. This liberating experience, reinforced by the sounds of the mantras that accompany the Jivamukti Yoga classes, catapulted Stephanie into her newest form of expression. And she quite literally reclaimed the whole of herself.</p>
<h2>A Collection of Mantras</h2>
<p>The mantras in <em><a href="http://stephaniecarlin.com/home-2#welcome" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Reclamation: A Collection of Mantras</a></em> are offered up through a refreshingly gritty plethora of sounds. “I wanted to explore all of the spaces of what it actually means to transform, evolve, transcend, get light,” says Carlin. This reminds me of the phrase “No Mud, No Lotus.” It is from the very journey to our depths and our willingness to embrace ourselves fully that our real voice is born.</p>
<p><img decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-20288" src="https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/StephanieCarlinalbumopt.jpg" alt="Stephanie Carlin Reclamation Album Cover " width="822" height="822" srcset="https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/StephanieCarlinalbumopt-66x66.jpg 66w, https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/StephanieCarlinalbumopt-150x150.jpg 150w, https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/StephanieCarlinalbumopt-200x200.jpg 200w, https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/StephanieCarlinalbumopt-300x300.jpg 300w, https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/StephanieCarlinalbumopt-400x400.jpg 400w, https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/StephanieCarlinalbumopt-600x600.jpg 600w, https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/StephanieCarlinalbumopt-800x800.jpg 800w, https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/StephanieCarlinalbumopt.jpg 822w" sizes="(max-width: 822px) 100vw, 822px" /></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Each of the mantras receives a completely different musical treatment. The gently percussive “Lokah Samastah&#8221; and “Gate Gate” have a watery feel.</p>
<div class="fusion-fullwidth fullwidth-box fusion-builder-row-1 fusion-flex-container hundred-percent-fullwidth non-hundred-percent-height-scrolling" style="background-color: rgba(255,255,255,0);background-position: center center;background-repeat: no-repeat;border-width: 0px 0px 0px 0px;border-color:#eae9e9;border-style:solid;" ><div class="fusion-builder-row fusion-row fusion-flex-align-items-flex-start" style="width:calc( 100% + 0px ) !important;max-width:calc( 100% + 0px ) !important;margin-left: calc(-0px / 2 );margin-right: calc(-0px / 2 );"><div class="fusion-layout-column fusion_builder_column fusion-builder-column-0 fusion_builder_column_1_1 1_1 fusion-flex-column fusion-flex-align-self-flex-start fusion-column-no-min-height"><div class="fusion-column-wrapper fusion-flex-justify-content-flex-start fusion-content-layout-column" style="background-position:left top;background-repeat:no-repeat;-webkit-background-size:cover;-moz-background-size:cover;-o-background-size:cover;background-size:cover;padding: 0px 0px 0px 0px;">
<div class="video-shortcode"><iframe width="800" height="450" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/l86Y46snam8?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe></div>
<p>“Rama Bolo” offers a soulful jazz vibe. A transporting electric guitar medley livens up the “Maha Mantra Hare Krishna.” I clearly see a dance party in your future.</p>
<p><img decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-20289" src="https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/StephanieCarlinopt.jpg" alt="Stephanie Carlin " width="822" height="565" srcset="https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/StephanieCarlinopt-200x137.jpg 200w, https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/StephanieCarlinopt-300x206.jpg 300w, https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/StephanieCarlinopt-400x275.jpg 400w, https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/StephanieCarlinopt-600x412.jpg 600w, https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/StephanieCarlinopt-800x550.jpg 800w, https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/StephanieCarlinopt.jpg 822w" sizes="(max-width: 822px) 100vw, 822px" /></p>
<p>The sound of a full rock band with layers of instruments and drum beats offers a powerful delivery system for the mantras. After my first listen, I sang “Rama Bolo” grooves to myself into the night.</p>
<h2>Messages of Reclaiming Yourself</h2>
<p>I’ve recently returned from an immersive set of teachings in a Nine Planet Temple Pilgrimage in South India and I feel a resonance of Stephanie’s message with the Rahu temple.</p>
<p><img decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-20291" src="https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/SarahTempleopt2.jpg" alt="Sarah Tomlinson at the Rahu Temple " width="822" height="465" srcset="https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/SarahTempleopt2-200x113.jpg 200w, https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/SarahTempleopt2-300x170.jpg 300w, https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/SarahTempleopt2-400x226.jpg 400w, https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/SarahTempleopt2-600x339.jpg 600w, https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/SarahTempleopt2-800x453.jpg 800w, https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/SarahTempleopt2.jpg 822w" sizes="(max-width: 822px) 100vw, 822px" /></p>
<p>Rahu asks us to celebrate our uniqueness. This is how we can discover what our individual gifts are and gain the courage to share them in the world. When Stephanie speaks of people “shedding self-doubt and speaking their truth,” I feel the same quality of Rahu at work.</p>
<p>When you listen to these mantras and chant along, I hope you will feel their innate power. I hope you will feel the encouragement <a href="http://stephaniecarlin.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Stephanie Carlin</a> echoes to listen to your intuition and deepest truths. Find the conviction to express them. Be free to be you.  Reclaim yourself.</p>

<p>I first met sacred music artist <a href="https://www.ambikachant.com" target="_blank">Ambika</a> more than 20 years ago in a dive bar in New York City’s East Village. She was standing in front of her band at the mic, singing in a hypnotic Siouxsie Sioux kind of way, clad in black PVC clothing, driving the audience wild.</p>
<h2>Finding Devotion in India</h2>
<p>Fast forward to the present moment after many trips to India to be with her beloved teacher Sri Siddhi Ma at the <a href="https://www.maharajji.com/Kainchi/kainchi-ashram.html" target="_blank">Neem Karoli Baba Ashram</a>. And now we have a compelling kirtan album in <a href="https://www.ambikachant.com" target="_blank">Mother&#8217;s Calling</a>. When they first met, Siddhi Ma asked Ambika to chant at the temple; her voice went out through the loudspeaker system in the afternoons.</p>
<p><img decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-19013" src="https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Ambika__playing_harmonium_opt.jpg" alt="Sacred Music Artist Ambika playing harmonium " width="822" height="1233" srcset="https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Ambika__playing_harmonium_opt-200x300.jpg 200w, https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Ambika__playing_harmonium_opt-400x600.jpg 400w, https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Ambika__playing_harmonium_opt-600x900.jpg 600w, https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Ambika__playing_harmonium_opt-800x1200.jpg 800w, https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Ambika__playing_harmonium_opt.jpg 822w" sizes="(max-width: 822px) 100vw, 822px" /></p>
<p>I believe it was typically the Hanuman Chalisa, a 40-verse chant to Hanuman. This was the only sadhana Ambika’s teacher permitted her. As per her teacher&#8217;s request, Ambika let the mantras move her; the temple-goers benefitted.</p>
<p>Over the years, this inward sadhana has combined with Ambika’s musical background to bear the ripe fruit of devotion.</p>
<h2>Mother&#8217;s Calling by Sacred Music Artist Ambika</h2>
<p><a href="http://www.brooklynyogaschool.com" target="_blank">Brooklyn Yoga School </a>Director <a href="https://www.lilycushman.com/blog/motherscalling" target="_blank">Lily Cushman</a> produced the album and her brilliance permeates the recording. She mixes the sounds of locals chanting in India, women chanting in Brooklyn, and all kinds of people chanting with Ambika in NYC. They all shine.</p>
<div id="attachment_18971" style="width: 830px" class="wp-caption alignright"><img decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-18971" class="size-full wp-image-18971" src="https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Ambika_MothersCalling_Cover_RGB_2.jpg" alt="Mother's Calling by Sacred Music Artist Ambika" width="820" height="820" srcset="https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Ambika_MothersCalling_Cover_RGB_2-66x66.jpg 66w, https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Ambika_MothersCalling_Cover_RGB_2-150x150.jpg 150w, https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Ambika_MothersCalling_Cover_RGB_2-200x200.jpg 200w, https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Ambika_MothersCalling_Cover_RGB_2-300x300.jpg 300w, https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Ambika_MothersCalling_Cover_RGB_2-400x400.jpg 400w, https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Ambika_MothersCalling_Cover_RGB_2-600x600.jpg 600w, https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Ambika_MothersCalling_Cover_RGB_2-800x800.jpg 800w, https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Ambika_MothersCalling_Cover_RGB_2.jpg 820w" sizes="(max-width: 820px) 100vw, 820px" /><p id="caption-attachment-18971" class="wp-caption-text">Photograph of Ambika by Sioux Nesi</p></div>
<p>The collection <a href="https://www.ambikachant.com" target="_blank">Mother&#8217;s Calling</a> begins with danceable Durga incantations before segueing into a slower mantra invoking Tara. A beautiful Devi Puja Mantra is sung with Sanskrit expert <a href="https://sanskritstudies.org" target="_blank">Manorama</a>. After the Goddess Chants, the listener is led through a series of Ram mantras, most notably Ambika’s beautiful rendition of the Hanuman Chalisa. It’s a tune she discovered at the Neem Karoli Baba Ashram. The Hanuman Chalisa seems to have found its way into every fiber of her being, and pretty soon it will be in yours too.</p>
<div class="video-shortcode"><iframe width="1200" height="675" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/videoseries?list=PLbwdysQtzFtHTqZuSp0OaMwNraXrDfAbN" frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; encrypted-media" allowfullscreen></iframe></div>
<p>Ambika’s soulful voice penetrates every song. Each chant leaves you with the feeling that the blessings of the great saints are alive and well. Listen&#8211;and join in&#8211;from your home, car, headset, or while on your yoga mat. I can assure you that you will experience a little piece of the magic.</p>

<h2>Yoga for Diabetes by Rachel Zinman</h2>
<p>I wish I had this book when I was diagnosed with type one diabetes 25 years ago! My journey with yoga and Ayurveda as a path to self-healing is right in line with the teachings offered in <em>Yoga for Diabetes</em> by learned yogini <a href="http://www.yogafordiabetesblog.com" target="_blank">Rachel Zinman (check out her blog!)</a>. Yoga has been a life-saver for me, emotionally, physically and as a steady, consistent way to connect to spirit every single day.</p>
<h2>Yoga for Diabetes includes Compassion</h2>
<p>Reading this fun and real book will make it easy for you to live better, healthier and longer and perhaps with a more gentle, loving and compassionate attitude than before. Whether you are living with diabetes or you are a caregiver for someone in your family, this is a sweet book (no pun intended).</p>
<div class="video-shortcode"><iframe width="620" height="465" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/bk_jse0kGuQ?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" gesture="media" allowfullscreen></iframe></div>
<p>The theme of this book is: What does one do when faced with a lifelong illness that will need to be managed rather than cured? Rachel tells it like it is. She describes what it is like to live with diabetes and how to integrate daily yoga and meditation. Rachel also discusses how to incorporate the Ayurvedic lifestyle practices that are right for you.</p>
<p><img decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-18072" src="https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/Yoga-for-Diabetes-front-cover.jpg" alt="Yoga for Diabetes by Rachel Zinman Book Cover " width="820" height="871" srcset="https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/Yoga-for-Diabetes-front-cover-200x212.jpg 200w, https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/Yoga-for-Diabetes-front-cover-282x300.jpg 282w, https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/Yoga-for-Diabetes-front-cover-400x425.jpg 400w, https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/Yoga-for-Diabetes-front-cover-600x637.jpg 600w, https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/Yoga-for-Diabetes-front-cover-800x850.jpg 800w, https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/Yoga-for-Diabetes-front-cover.jpg 820w" sizes="(max-width: 820px) 100vw, 820px" /></p>
<p>This is ambitious. In reality, it’s a book about at least four subjects. Yet Rachel gracefully guides us through and leads us gently to the practices. The offerings conveyed in each chapter will be up to you, the reader, to try.</p>
<h2>Yoga for Diabetes includes Individualized Advice</h2>
<p>Since Ayurveda is an underlying theme here, Rachel reminds us of the importance of understanding our uniqueness. This is true even among people with a similar diagnosis. In the book, she encourages each person to discover their own approach to managing moods, diet, and connection to spirit through food, yoga postures, mantras, breathing practices, lifestyle balancing habits, and meditations.</p>
<p>Her discussion of asana includes inviting color photos of three different yoga students taken in three breathtaking nature settings in Australia.</p>
<p>The kapha-stimulating section is set on the beach with the aqua blue ocean behind.</p>
<p><img decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-18096" src="https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/YogaforDiabetesKaphaBalancing.jpg" alt="Yoga for Diabetes Kapha Stimulating Pose " width="822" height="465" srcset="https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/YogaforDiabetesKaphaBalancing-200x113.jpg 200w, https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/YogaforDiabetesKaphaBalancing-300x170.jpg 300w, https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/YogaforDiabetesKaphaBalancing-400x226.jpg 400w, https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/YogaforDiabetesKaphaBalancing-600x339.jpg 600w, https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/YogaforDiabetesKaphaBalancing-800x453.jpg 800w, https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/YogaforDiabetesKaphaBalancing.jpg 822w" sizes="(max-width: 822px) 100vw, 822px" /></p>
<p>The pitta-cooling, calming section is set in a leafy jungle.</p>
<p><img decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-18097" src="https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/YogaforDiabetesPittaCalming.jpg" alt="Yoga for Diabetes Pitta Calming" width="822" height="465" srcset="https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/YogaforDiabetesPittaCalming-200x113.jpg 200w, https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/YogaforDiabetesPittaCalming-300x170.jpg 300w, https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/YogaforDiabetesPittaCalming-400x226.jpg 400w, https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/YogaforDiabetesPittaCalming-600x339.jpg 600w, https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/YogaforDiabetesPittaCalming-800x453.jpg 800w, https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/YogaforDiabetesPittaCalming.jpg 822w" sizes="(max-width: 822px) 100vw, 822px" /></p>
<p>For the third dosha, the vata-grounding section is set in the sandy mountains.</p>
<p><img decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-18098" src="https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/YogaforDiabetesVataCalming.jpg" alt="Yoga for Diabetes Vata Calming" width="822" height="465" srcset="https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/YogaforDiabetesVataCalming-200x113.jpg 200w, https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/YogaforDiabetesVataCalming-300x170.jpg 300w, https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/YogaforDiabetesVataCalming-400x226.jpg 400w, https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/YogaforDiabetesVataCalming-600x339.jpg 600w, https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/YogaforDiabetesVataCalming-800x453.jpg 800w, https://layoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/YogaforDiabetesVataCalming.jpg 822w" sizes="(max-width: 822px) 100vw, 822px" /></p>
<p>Rachel offers an A-Z guide to yoga asana with instructions on how to move in and out of poses safely while discovering their many benefits. She can make the sound of taking some full breaths or doing a lunge very appealing.</p>
<h3>Recommendations for Yoga for Diabetes</h3>
<p>This book is a fun companion to the world of yoga. I recommend it for everyone from beginners to experienced practitioners. The stress of living with a chronic condition like diabetes requires you to dig deep and keep some self-care tools handy. Your nervous system will thank you if you follow these practices. In addition, you may notice increased cooperation from your physical response to insulin, food intake, and glandular balance. In closing, I suggest this book to anyone who is on the fence about giving yoga a go. <a href="http://bit.ly/diabetesyogabook" target="_blank">Learn more about the book Yoga for Diabetes here</a>.</p>
