Imagine if many of the corner stores in this country were cooperatively owned. Instead of sole proprietors relying on big food to stock their stores with convenience junk food, it will carry what the members who live in the community want and need. Plus if someone else come along dangling a big payday with intent to buy that store there are more people to convince. That store would be more important for the goods and services it provides to the owners than a payday split hundreds (or thousands) of ways. Now extend that to more types of businesses in your neighborhood. More money would stay in town, the economy would more directly benefit the people who live there, rather thank shareholders and stockholders and seeing this big business will move toward this model and other people will be indirectly benefited by your example.
