Out of the eight petals of yoga, the only petal that is exhibitive is the yoga asanas whereas the other petals are very individual and personal. As such there is nothing wrong with holding a competition on the qualitative presentation of yoga asanas

Great report! I was able to watch most of the event online through the live-stream coverage, with the added benefit of voice commentary from 2011 Champion, Joseph Encinia. The “home studio”, Bikram Yoga Northside, is proud to be the home studio for three International Representatives from Australia, Leah Donohoe, Rowena Jayne, and now Kowshini.

The championship weekend for me is as much about the entrants and their beautiful displays of yoga asana as it is about coming together as a large community of people from all around the world who feel passionate about the ability of yoga asana to inspire and assist in healing and supporting people in the midst of the increasing complex world our generation is living in. While some may question the validity of a yoga competition, it is interesting to note that B.K.S. Iyengar is supportive.
