Transcend the World through Empowerment

Achieve Alignment and Enlightenment on Mahasivratri World Yogi Day 2021

Once a year, astronomically & astrologically earth’s alignment to planets, sun and the cosmology aligns to the possibility of all who do Yoga attaining enlightenment in a single night.

Mahasivratri, the World Yogi Day, has been observed for thousands of years by yogis and householders as the most effective time to attain the full extent of expansion in Consciousness. Consciousness and unity with source is the goal of all Yoga.

Influence of the Moon:

The night of Mahasivratri March 11,2021, is based on the lunar calendar. During this period our consciousness easily condenses into divine awareness. From the yogic perspective, the Moon directly influences the mind and our consciousness. Each month, the new Moon and full Moon energies offer their own unique power as the Earth rotates around the Sun in its oval-shaped orbit through the year. Mahasivratri is a sacred vortex of time caused by the once a year alignment of Earth in correlation with the moon and sun; Earth and the planets and stars.

This is our time to Transcend the World and Step into Infinity:

The quest to greater potential is within everyone- and this big quest activates itself in destiny of time as Consciousness.

Siddhartha was torn by this deep quest to leave home & family to find the answer to this deep quest and be the Buddha, the Being of Consciousness. Especially in troubling and challenging times we are all forced to ask “Why me?” and seek the vaster solution of transformation & truth within ourselves to be Whole.

Yoga, meditation, and other spiritual practices have a sole objective- attainment of Consciousness. The quest to want to be whole, to deepen our spiritual practice and to be the core of harmony & peace is the need to take an inner pilgrimage to find ourselves and transcend material form, time and space.

Yoga as practice, is the daily discipline of push and the sacred grace of the pull. For a yoga practitioner, meditator and seeker Mahasivratri is like a birthday, the day of awakening to the vastness of ourselves as Spirit- the newer consciousness. This is the time leading up to the night of Mahasivratri the most sacred time when all the Avatars, Himalayan and South Indian Gurus Yogis who are never seen by humanity emerge to participate in the great cosmic alignment with you.

How your Yoga and Meditation Practice can benefit from this auspicious time:

Mahasivratri is observed in general by staying up all night, with spine erect- so to receive the enlightening blessings. It is advisable to prepare for this cosmically empowering all nighter by starting our pilgrimage within.

Siddha Yoga Guidance for How to be Ready to attain ultimate Yoga Consciousness on World Yogi Day March 11th.

Take the initiation to start the pilgrimage within and achieve alignment and enlightenment. Set your calendar to being with the full moon day Feb 28th, two weeks before Mahasivratri. You can choose to join us as we go through seven empowerment initiations and a program of preparation together.

Or create your own personal program and retreat.

On Feb 28th- On the Full moon, moment pray setting an intent to plunge within to dissolve into Lord Siva. Feel this moment as an initiation of Source where you are committed. Go to your Guru or visit a Temple or sit beside your altar and pray to be guided through the next 14 days into Mahasivratri. Pray that from this moment on, every breath is with the mantra

AUM NAMAH SIVAYA.

Let this moment be the Source initiation.

Like the Full Moon waning to be the New Moon, we pilgrimage from human in limits to being the Spirit, the Unlimited.

Begin each day with light a lamp (to kindle our inner lamp) and end the day lighting the lamp–with mantras. Wake up with the mantra, be aware of each moment in the mantra fires, before sleep recite the mantras. Make the mantra fires a 24/7 inner heart song.

Detox the mind and body. Through the 14 days let go of the thoughts, the mind, the ego and all the attachment. Forgive others. Forgive ourselves. Let go of the past.

Have just nuts, fruits, fruit/vegetable juices and herbs. (Consult an Ayurvedic practitioner of the ideal herbs you could take.). Taking Ayurvedic herbs during this period amplifies their healing abilities.

Be in a nurturing environment. Surround yourself with higher vibrational Beings or be in solitude. Observe silence. Silence the mind and thought process through the joy states of mantra recitation and a meditative mind.

Each day go deeper within. Do pilgrimages to sacred places if possible. At the end of each day, celebrate the inner journey by way of doing a puja. (A puja is a worship of the Divine offering flowers, fruits and devotional love.)

Most important is to connect to the power of the ‘pull.’ This is the grace of yoga. Consummate the grace of Mahasivratri, the pull element by doing dharma/ charity/ heart’s service, and random acts of consciousness.

Drop all habits and addictions. These could be cigarettes, coffee, internet use, or even anger. Step out of the mind that functions in karmic imprints of the past.

Do the Siva Linga Puja to accelerate the journey into Consciousness. When we bring focus of the Infinite in the finite as by way of the Linga :Puja, we are following the path of the enlightened mystic Sages, the Siddhas.

Each day welcome the vast new crisp energies of clarity, revitalization, rejuvenation, and states of bliss. Witness the experience of bliss and joy that eliminates hunger and thirst. Be aware of the ecstasy of experience that increases with each passing day as the mind withdraws. Feel the need for sleep subside- without force and as naturally as possible. Let our meditative mind experience being a pillar of Light.

On Mahasivratri Night, enjoy the effortless ease of sleeplessness, bliss, perpetual energy, joy, clarity, and states of Oneness–the states of Turiya. Stay awake through the night doing your Yoga practice and rise in the morning renewed with pristine mind, body and spirit.

Mahasivratri is a Path of the Inner Pilgrimage of Practice

Mahasivratri is a significant spiritual festival observed by millions across India. This time is dedicated to Lord Siva, who destroys everything that is limited. Mahasivratri holds the blessings of the unlimited, the Spirit. Lord Siva (Shiva in North India) is known as the Yogi as he is the perpetually infinite in unions with the finite. Thus Mahasivratri is called the “Great Night of the Yogi, Lord Siva.” Mahasivratri is the auspicious time for each of us to do the ultimate inner pilgrimage we are called to in order to wake up and rebirth as the Yogi.

2020 Mahasivratri Dates

In 2020, Mahasivratri falls on February 21. This exact day of Mahasivratri is based on the lunar calendar. From the yogic perspective, the Moon influences the mind and our consciousness. Each month, the energies of the new and full Moon offer their unique power. Mahasivratri is a sacred vortex of time caused by a specific annual alignment of the Earth in correlation with the Moon and Sun as well as the other planets and stars. During this period our consciousness easily condenses into divine awareness.

Mahasivratri is an ideal time for the following activities.

Physical detoxification.

Mental detoxification through letting go of the past and releasing karmic imprints of limitations.

Creating intent for resolution and prayer.

Inspiration to awaken the yogi within.

Breaking free from stagnation in order to more easily live a life attuned to our higher purpose.

Awakening to the joyfulness of “Being” a person of higher consciousness and thereby imbibing all the associated qualities: abundance, harmony, love, and wisdom.

To become a Master, a Yogi awake.

The Yogic Alignment of Mahasivratri

Yoga as practice is the daily discipline of push and the sacred grace of the pull; it is a practice in which we can transcend the human to be spirit. The energetic alignment of Mahasivratri supports the ultimate objective of yoga, which is the grace of awakening and expanding consciousness. When Consciousness expands, we can utilize our entire mental potential in order to tap into the states beyond ordinary mind. These extraordinary states are known as turiya states. Enlightenment is the gift of Mahasivratri.

For a yoga practitioner, meditator, and seeker, Mahasivratri is like a birthday celebration. The energy of this day supports our ability to awaken to the vastness of ourselves as Spirit. This is the night when sages who meditate in seclusion throughout the year emerge to bless humanity.

Stories of Mahasivratri

There are many stories associated with Mahasivratri. A popular Indian story is the tale of the thief on the run. It goes something like this. To escape from wild animals, a thief climbs into the branches of a vilva or bilva tree. He stayed up all night and—unbeknownst to him—his movements caused the leaves to fall onto a Siva Lingam, a stone that is a representation to Siva. It is important to note that the vilva tree is sacred to Lord Siva, and these leaves are given as offerings. By virtue of staying up all night, with a mind surrendered to the infinite in repentance, and unconscious worship of Lord Siva through offering the leaves, the thief attained enlightenment. This story illustrates the ease with which we can access the energy of Mahasivratri.

Many of the heroes we admire, people such as Einstein, Mahatma Gandhi, Rumi, and Nelson Mandela, are masters who woke up to the supermind or super-consciousness of turiya. It is from this realm that they were able to shine as masters.

The Mysteries of Turiya

My Guru, Siddha Ayya, sat for 18 years without moving while in his cave on the peak of Arunachala. He drank only one cup of milk a day. He had gone beyond sleep. Siddha Ayya was in experiencing turiya, a state described as the “sleepless sleep.” In turiya, our mental potential is more than completely utilized. We awaken our siddhis, our own inner genius, the phenomena sometimes described as extrasensory perceptions.

Attaining turiya is the ultimate objective of yoga. This sublime state of higher consciousness is the genius of the spirit having the human experience of inspiration. Thoughts become wisdom. Turiya states occur when the crown chakra, the sahasrara, has blossomed with the thousands of petals of consciousness. When the crown chakra has blossomed like a lotus, the journey of a Siddha, an enlightened Being, has begun.

The Journey of Daily Practice

Our journey of daily yoga offers us drops of the nectar of Siva Consciousness. These include bliss, wisdom, tranquility, joy, and vitality. When we embark on an inner pilgrimage aligning ourselves to Mahasivratri, we experience the ultimate consciousness of turiya. Our potent thoughts create magnificent realities.

In the imagery of the Indian deities, Turiya states are represented by the gods and goddesses with multiple heads that illustrate our innate ability to be the many as one. Lord Siva is beyond this: He exemplifies the energy of infinity.

Realization of our True Self

When our limited soul stuck in ego of “I” wakes up to realize the vast being of spirit that is our true self, our jivatman (individual soul) becomes Paramatman. The Paramatman is the vast infinite self that is mentioned in the Christian tradition as the Holy Ghost. Lord Siva- the limitless Being. Lord Siva, the Yogi is called Satchidananda. Sat is Consciousness; Chit is experience; Ananda is Bliss.

When turiya states are attained, we experience mastery: a mind of clarity, the wisdom of knowing, the grace of cosmic unions of yoga and bliss.

Mahasivratri and Turiya

One of the observances during the night of Mahasivratri is to stay awake all night while singing, chanting, and dancing. This is about training ourselves to go beyond the mind and its sleep pattern through meditative practice. During the time vortex of Mahasivratri, we experience “sleepless sleep” with less effort. Our mind that has experienced the state of turiya is forever expanded in consciousness.

Guidance for the 14 days of Inner Pilgrimage

Set an intention to begin the inner pilgrimage on the Full Moon Day two weeks before Mahasivratri.

On the Full Moon, set an intention to plunge within to experience consciousness. Feel this as an initiation into Source. Connect to the mantra Aum Namah Sivaya. (Listen to the Mantra.)

Like the Full Moon waning on the journey to become the New Moon, we embark on a pilgrimage from the human life to one of Spirit.

Practices for the Inner Pilgrimage through Meditation During Sivaratri

Begin and end each day by lighting a lamp or candles with mantra. The light kindles our inner lamp. The mantras are the melody to our 24/7 inner heart song. The joy states of mantra recitation and meditation help silence the mind and thought process.

Mental and Physical Detoxification

Practice a 14-day mental detoxification. Release toxic thoughts. Forgive others. Forgive yourself. Step out of the mind that functions in karmic imprints of the past.

Commit to a 14-day physical detoxification, eliminate alcohol and processed foods and sugars. Favor nuts, fruits, fruit and vegetable juices, and herbs specific to your individual nature. The healing powers of herbs, medicines, or modalities used during this time are amplified.

Drop habits and addictions. Examine your use of cigarettes, coffee, excessive use of the internet, or even anger.

Create a nurturing environment. Surround yourself with higher vibrational beings or be in solitude. Observe silence.

Go Deeper Each Daily through Practice

Each day go deeper within. If possible, go on pilgrimage to sacred places. At the end of each day, celebrate the inner journey with a puja. A puja is worship of the divine offering flowers, fruits, and devotional love.

Cultivate grace with random acts of consciousness through charity, living our dharma, and through heart’s service. This grace is the power of the pull of yoga and how we draw energy toward us.

Each day, welcome the vast new crisp energies of clarity, revitalization, rejuvenation, and states of bliss. Witness the bliss and joy that eliminates hunger and thirst. Feel the need for sleep subside. Allow our meditative mind to experience being a pillar of light.

Do a puja with a Siva Linga to accelerate the journey into Consciousness. When we focus on the Infinite within the finite through the Linga Puja, we are following the path of the enlightened mystic sages, the Siddhas.

Mahasivratri Night

On the night of Mahasivratri, enjoy the effortless ease of sleeplessness, bliss, perpetual energy, joy, clarity and states of Oneness— Turiya.

After Mahasivratri Maintain the Inner Pilgrimage

After Mahasivratri, bring the awakened states of turiya into your everyday life. Reserve one day each week for an inner pilgrimage through meditation and mantra practice.

Transformation through Practice

For a yogi, Mahasivratri is the “Day/Night of Yoga,” the time to transcend, transform, and evolve.

Mahasivratri has been observed as the single most important vortex of time by the yogis and householders in India for thousands of years. Based on the planetary alignment with earth and the lunar cycle, this vortex of time holds the objectives of yoga as in being the Spirit having the human experience; as in being ‘liberated’ from the limits of the mind and as in having the grace of Source in our daily realities.

Reasons to celebrate Mahasivratri

State of Turiya, the super-conscious states of an enlightened yogi

There are many versions of stories behind Mahasivratri. One of the popular version of the stories behind this is the following:

A thief was running away into the forest as it was getting dark. Since he was frightened of the wild animals, he climbed up a tree. By good fortunes of the past births of the thief, the tree happens to be the Vilva and its leaves are Lord Siva’s favorite offerings to be given. Unknown to the thief, just below was a Siva Lingam (Lord Siva represented as a in the form of infinity- the Lingam). The thief was afraid to fall down and he kept away through this night of Mahasivratri and the leaves of Vilva kept falling down accidentally. Through the night, the thief had stayed up all night—and morning the thief—by grace of staying up all night—had attained enlightenment.

In India, millions of ordinary people—householders and yogis stay up through the night chanting and signing to Lord Siva. Most householders, however, like weekend warriors, simply jump into Mahasivratri fighting sleep with determination. They may miss the essence of Mahasivratri as the “staying up all night” is actually a yogic process of attainment of the state of Turiya.

Turiya is the State of Focus, Joy, and Bliss

The state of Turiya is called the sleepless sleep: a realm beyond the mind that is of intense joy and bliss. The state of Turiya is also attained by each of us when we are in totality of focus, inspiration, excitement, and happiness while doing something that we enjoy—when we do not feel tired, hungry, hot, cold, or sleepy.

For a yogi, it is an inner journey to attain the supreme objective of yoga—to be Lord Siva, the Yogi. Lord Siva is our awake soul, the Spirit that is mentioned in the Bible as the Holy Ghost. By observing Mahasivratri and attaining the state of of blissful union with Lord Siva, through the night of Mahasivratri, the state of Turiya awakens as the experience beyond limits of the mind.

Consciousness is awakened by attainment of state of Turiya, even if it was just for that one night. Then for our entire lifetime we are blessed by the empowerment of ourselves through the state of a yogic mind; the state of Turiya.

The wisdom of ancient spiritual India works in potency through the determined time vortexes

All scientists of the past in India were yogis. The yogis were intuitive and scientific in seeing time as an important facet of divinity, as much as infinity, matter, and energy is seen as representing Source/God. For thousands of years, the Mahasivratri observed on the lunar calendar has been determined by the yogis as the single most important period to attain enlightenment, grace of fulfillment as blessings, and renewal. It is a common observance among yogis who do intense spiritual penance (tapas) to be in solitude through the whole year and come out to the public on the night of Mahasivratri to bless humanity.

Any religious festival observed by millions, from Christmas to Ramadan, creates a time vortex as a result of the power of collective consciousness. Mahasivratri is celebrated in fasting and worship by the largest mass of humanity creating adding grace to the already potent time vortex.

Mahasivratri is an ideal time to detoxify and rejuvenate

When we want to attain the yogic union of the mind with Source/God/Lord Siva, fasting aids in the process. When there is minimal activity in our digestive tract and our a mind has tuned into the state of joy that forgets hunger, heat, and cold and the other limits of the body and mind, we are able to step into the grace of stillness to meditate and tune into the state of Turiya.

The fasting of Mahasivratri is done in stages. The first step is to have fruits, fruit juices, plenty of water, and nuts. The yogi then awakens intense states of joy to gradually reduce the intake of fruits and nuts. The body and the mind must be treated with love and care through this period as we meditate on bliss and become bliss form. Having specific Ayurvedic herbs that are wisely chosen during this period intensifies the rejuvenative energies of our body and mind.

Liberate yourself- a crucial essence of yoga!

A primal need of all humans is the desire for freedom, or wanting to be free. To be free really means to be free of limits of the mind, body, and realities.

When practicing yoga, the first experience is bliss and liberation. Any yoga asana done properly with awareness of breath conveys the experience of bliss like a drop of nectar.

Liberation means freedom. This sense of freedom/liberation is in reality the experience of being the yogi as the Spirit having the human experience. It is felt as bliss. Lord Siva is called Satchidananda. This means Sat-truth, chit-consciousness, ananda-bliss. When we experience bliss and transform our life experience as bliss, we attain the body of bliss and the mind of Turiya. Mahasivratri holds the condensed and intense experience of this bliss that liberates us. Doing the inner pilgrimage through Mahasivratri for a yogi is the attainment of the honey pot.

Understanding ourselves as the Emperor through observance of Mahasivratri.

The difference between a slave and an emperor is this: Who owns time?

We are all caught in the 24-hour clock of time. This cycle is tied to the sleeping, dreaming, and awake states of the mind. The mind in its moods of ups and downs. In these states, life circumstances keep us running the same old race. A yogi, by contrast, is liberated from this time clock.

Freeing ourselves from Time through Practice

The first step to breaking free from the prison of time that holds our mind is to light a lamp, candle, or flame at least once a day and connect to Source/God.

The next important observance is to observe one day a week solely to connect to Source/God. Doing this is a precious and ongoing holiday that we can give ourselves and set ourselves on the throne of the Emperor.

The third observance is to connect to the moon cycles. This is connecting the New Moon (the time to celebrate Lord Siva as Spirit) and the Full Moon (the time to celebrate Lord Vishnu as the awake mind).

The single most important moment through the year is Mahasivratri. This day offers us the moment when we take our inner pilgrimage to awaken to the “I Am” experience of Lord Siva as the timeless, beyond the mind. This experience awakens us and sets us on a journey to enlightenment and beyond.

Every time we observe setting aside one day a week to connect to God, our special day off for being a yogi, we relive the once-a-year Mahasivratri. This is the experience of being Light. When we do this, we can expand our consciousness to be the Sun of the mind that has woken up the Spirit to enshrine our body.

It is from timelessness that time can be defined.

Now as conscious beings of timelessness, let us define realities for ourselves and all of planet earth as time!
