Astrology March 2014

The New Moon in Aquarius sets up the month of March to be an auspicious time to step up our service to the greater good.  Sam Geppi

March 1 – 30

A new cycle of contribution and service begins with the New Moon in Aquarius. The next 30 days is an ideal time to focus on causes greater than yourself. Look for opportunities to serve and support causes or organizations you believe in—both personal and cultural. Aquarius is a fixed air sign, ruled by Saturn, which supports a willingness to commit to ideas that endure, uplift, and advance society.

This New Moon is in Shatabishak Nakshatra, which means “100 Doctors” or “100 Medicines.” It refers to the need to seek alternative remedies to life’s problems. The energy at this time supports exploring “thinking outside of the box.”

March 1 – May 19

Fighting the inner fight takes on new meaning when Mars turns retrograde in Libra. Mars is known as the planet of war; but he only wages outer battles when he is lacking inner strength. Relationship themes and the act of making compromises with others will play a large part to contribute to the process of inner strengthening now and until May 19, when Mars turns direct.

March 3 – July 20

Our long-term commitments will be scrutinized and plans revised when Saturn turns retrograde on March 3, remaining retrograde until July 20. Saturn is also in Libra, just like Mars, showing some introspection and reflection on our relationships with others, social fairness and justice, and happiness. Recent progress with women’s rights in India and across the globe, gay rights in the United States, and greater accountability for NSA spying programs are evidence of this Saturn in Libra transit. Now similar themes will be scrutinized in our personal and public lives.

March 9 – 10

Higher learning and spiritual study will be important when the Moon joins Jupiter in Gemini. Giving voice to our teachings and making sense of our beliefs will be important. These are also important days to take or teach a class. Jupiter is the great teacher and guru, one who connects us to something more than just life’s problems.

March 16

Emotional scrutiny and responsibility will be significant themes with the Full Moon in Virgo. We may feel a need to be more organized, practical, and psychologically rational for the next month or so. Life is in the details and Virgo is the sign where those details either overwhelm us or lead to greater self-understanding and self-mastery. But we also need to make sure to invite grace into the process, or else excessive nit-picky crankiness can set in.

This Full Moon is in the Nakshatra of Uttara Phalguni, ruled by Aryaman, the god of official business and contracts. This is a good time to work on your taxes and get your finances in order.

March 19 – 20

Major emotional/relationship intensity will be dished up with the Moon in Libra joined Saturn, Rahu, and Mars, with them all retrograde. Having these three major malefic/stressful planets in one sign is trouble enough. Yet the Moon’s conjunction now signals a couple of days to just “roll with the punches,” because you might otherwise be throwing punches. Your romantic relationships may feel very stressful now. It might be a good couple of days for a graceful “timeout.”

March 23 –  24

A renewed sense of hope and optimism returns with the Moon in Sagittarius, aspected by Jupiter and Saturn. This is a good day to ponder the more inspiring side of life and concentrate on the deeper meaning behind things. Go to the library and study a new metaphysical teaching, or delve deeper into a teaching that is already part of your life.

March 30

A fresh cycle of hope and creative beauty begins on the New Moon in Pisces. Now is the time to swim in the ever-changing celestial tides that exist between this world and the others. Allow your heart to merge with these highest teachings. Pisces is ruled by Jupiter, the planet of wisdom traditions and healing. In addition, there is also enormous creativity, romance, and emotional expansion possible for the next 30 days.

This New Moon is in Uttara Bhadra Nakshatra, ruled by the deity Ahi Bhudnya, the celestial serpent. This is a time to dig deeply into life’s mysteries and explore all of the holes in our psyche.
