The energetic qualities of Venus hold sway over much of this month as the beginning of October portends romance, pleasure, and desire with the caveat to focus on loving yourself first and then sharing that love with the ones around you. As the month progresses, there is a seriousness that also reminds us of the need to take care of ourselves first. The overall theme that holds sway during all of the energetic is to surrender to the wisdom of our own practice and to find solace in remembering that our true nature is spirit.
October 2 – 4
The current placement of the Moon and Venus in Libra is excellent energy to support relationships of all sorts, especially romantic ones. Venus has been in Libra for a couple of weeks now, a transit that raises the romance quotient. The addition of the Moon conjunction brings additional experiences of pleasure and desire into the depths of your heart, mind, and psyche.
However, the best of the Venus principle is related to sharing what pleases us, rather than coveting the other person’s attention. Pay close attention to your personal desires and be wary of how wrapped up they are in getting approval from others. Love yourself first, then share that self-love with others.
October 5 – 9
The Moon will be joined by the malefic planets Saturn and Mars at this time, which will lead to several days of drama and intensity. On October 5 and 6, the Moon will be in Scorpio with Saturn. Managing our emotional fears, and facing our control issues will be important. Control thyself first, last, and always!
October 7 – 9
The Moon will be in Sagittarius joined by Mars. This suggests a time of more ready inspiration, but it may also bring you into conflict with others.
These are good days for practicing yoga and other physical disciplines as well as connecting to higher purposes.
October 13 – November 7
Venus moves into Scorpio with Saturn for several weeks. The light, airy nature that we felt with Venus in Libra will suddenly become full of intensity and stress. Expect your relationships to become very serious, as themes of jealousy and other vulnerabilities creep into your personal life. You may find that others are suspicious of your intentions, and you suspicious of theirs. Some deep, dark secrets may be revealed that shock you into reality. The temptation of such revelations is to claim yourself as a victim. But we know better, don’t we? Getting real with your projections and your imagined fears will be important now—especially when it comes to how those projections and fears are expressed in personal relationships.
October 15
The Full Moon in Pisces is today, which is a combination that is a harmonizing of the Virgo principle which began September 30 on the New Moon in Virgo. This Pisces Full Moon shows the need to trust in the bigger, cosmic picture if we are to complete all of the detailed work ruled by Virgo. For the previous couple of weeks, a hairsplitting, rational state of mind has been prominent. Now we can release some of the worry inherent to Virgo and some of the responsibility we may feel for figuring it all out, and instead trust that cosmic wisdom is always right.
For the next two weeks, surrender to your higher teachings and teachers. Trust that the universe has your back and does not make mistakes. Be careful of the temptation to slide into escapism as a hedge against all of the pressures in the world.
This Full Moon happens in Revati Nakshatra, ruled by the shepherd of the gods. Now is a great time to serve beings that need assistance, especially animals and those who cannot take care of themselves.
October 18 – 19
The Moon is exalted in Taurus and aspected by Venus and Saturn in Scorpio. Now is the time to relax into the depths of the heart, rather than riding up and down on the waves of emotion and desire. The Moon is exalted in Taurus, the fixed earth, a placement that allows us to settle and deepen our connection to the cosmic heart. However, this exalted Moon is aspected by Saturn and Venus, bringing turbulent emotions to contrast and challenge to our inner peace and silence. The deeper lesson with Taurus is contentment, rather than accumulation or happiness.
October 25 – 26
The Moon is in Leo with Rahu, aspected by Saturn. Be careful of fear-driven power struggles with others. Leo is a sign of royalty and authority. Rahu is the eclipse point that distorts and conflates our perceptions. This offers is a great opportunity to expand your kingdom and platform, yet you may feel threatened by other kings. Resist engaging in power struggles. The aspect from Saturn brings pressure and the feeling of being mistreated or abused. However, it may also support commitments to service. For those who are humble and living on purpose, there may be enormous potential for advancement.
October 30
The New Moon in Libra is today, which brings the Sun and Moon together, starting this new cycle of relationships and accommodating others. Libra is ruled by Venus, the planet of happiness and valuing others equal to ourselves. For the next 30 days, the power of self will be weaker than usual. This naturally disposes us to call in the power of others. Yet, we may feel disrespected and lose our way as a result. Today is also the first day of Diwali, the day when we celebrate the light of consciousness. Balancing our desires and the desires of others will be important for the next 30 days.
This New Moon happens in the Nakshatra of Swati, ruled by Hanuman, the monkey God. The next 30 days contain the potential for transforming our personal desires into service, when we remember our true nature as spirit.
