This is one gutsy yoga DVD. The box set contains 13 discs, which amounts to 36 pose tips and 13 hour-long yoga classes taught by ex-Marine-turned-yoga-instructor, Rudy Mettia. Most classes take place in a studio setting, where Mettia leads about 15 taut and toned students in his zany style, made all the more entertaining by his quirky sense of humor and deep Southern drawl.
Each disc offers a themed Power Yoga-based class. Once you’ve run through one cycle of discs, return and proceed to work up from the introductory Gathering class (performed in what looks like a Coliseum), choosing discs based on what your body needs. To work on the shoulders, pop in disc two, called Responsible Warrior, and expand with Eagle Arms, Dolphin Push Ups and Planks. If you’re looking for a heat-inducing flow, disc five, Fluid Warrior, will test your abilities in a sweaty Vinyasa. My favorite class is on disc four, Gentle Warrior, for its Yin approach and emphasis on long holds in forward bends. Check out the bonus CD for the yoga class performed in a forest.
Yoga Warrior 365 offers variety, provides useful insights, and is captivating with every viewing. Although Mettia sounds like a tough guy on paper, it’s evident that he loves to teach yoga—and has a good time while doing so.
