May’s movements of the Moon inspire us to connect to the mystical, to meaning, to the metaphysical, and to the purest desires of our hearts.
May 3 – 4
Creativity and playfulness can lead us to deep philosophical insights when the Moon joins Jupiter in Gemini. This conjunction brings together the curiosity of a child with the mind of a mystic. Spirituality is a metaphysical science, based on practice and technique, not belief: Feel the intersection between science and experimentation (Gemini) and belief/religion (Jupiter) now.
May 10 – 11
Squabbles over spitting hairs and minute details are on the rise with the Moon joined Mars in Virgo. Those details often appear as spoken words and adjustments that need to be made. There is a distinct possibility of other people’s
communications and miscommunications getting on your nerves—as well as your poor communication getting on other people’s nerves. It is best to slow down and be tolerant and patient with others and their missteps, as the strong Mars has a tendency to increase our overall impatience and irritability. To counteract this, these are good days to chant the Gayatri Mantra.
May 14
Reflecting feelings and emotions of others in contrast to our own desires will be important with the Full Moon in Libra. This is the second Full Moon in Libra this year after April’s eclipse. Once again we are being challenged to harmonize our self-will (Sun in Aries) with the needs of others (Libra). The lesson is that nothing we can accomplish on our own is meaningful without sharing it with someone or having something to share it with. May’s Full Moon is exactly conjunct retrograde Saturn, which can reveal some heavy lessons and consequences. This Full Moon happens in Vishaka Nakshatra, the star of purpose and following a righteous course. Look for a higher cause (social or spiritual) for you and your beloved to rally around; elevate your personal desires toward something more worthy.
May 15
A shift from individuality to values and family happens when the Sun leaves Aries and enters Taurus. For the next 30 days, the Sun in Taurus will demand that we connect to our roots, families, and values. If we are lacking in or misusing any of these, our mistakes will be illuminated. If they are already solid structures in our lives, we can expect them to deepen naturally. Plant a garden or bring a new plant into your home.
May 17 – 18
A sense of hope, excitement, and the coming of consequences will be in the air with the Moon in Sagittarius, aspected by Mars, Saturn, and Jupiter. Expect people to be easily triggered, restless, and looking for answers. Offer inspiration to them and seek it yourself. These are good days for deepening your spiritual practices, especially if they include any type of formal metaphysical study. Physical disciplines like yoga, or any kind of workout, are also recommended.
May 21 – 22
Social justice and equality are key themes when the Moon travels through Aquarius and is aspected by Jupiter in Gemini. Connecting with your community and advancing causes bigger than yourself are important. The aspect from Jupiter brings guru’s grace into the picture so remember that it is not up to you to have all the answers, but just to do the work. Focus on both advocacy and service.
May 25 – 16
Expressing and refining sexual passion are at the forefront as the Moon moves through Aries and joins Venus and Ketu. Venus in Aries is very passionate configuration, as is the Moon in Aries. Yet Ketu can bring dissatisfaction and criticism, so notice your irritability when your desires are not fulfilled and purify them. This is a powerful opportunity to express and witness your passions simultaneously.
May 28
A new cycle of stability, beauty, and value will begin with the New Moon in Taurus. The Sun and Moon come together now aligning action and feeling around these important lessons. The real key to the Taurus lesson is contentment. If we are content with what we have, we are also present and enjoying it, rather than worried about losing what we have, or feeling dissatisfied with it. Mercury joining Jupiter in Gemini also evokes philosophical insight for the coming month.
This New Moon happens in Rohini Nakshatra, ruled by the god Prajapati, the creator. A healthy, creative mind leads to a life of contentment. However, we have the potential to create discord and drama if we are disconnected from our heart.
