This month of eclipses, rare Venus/Mars coordinated planetary shifts, and Mercury stationing direct ask us to develop greater clarity of personal purpose and direction by balancing the demands of our worldly domain and our spiritual lives.
September 1
There is a New Moon and Solar Eclipse in Leo today. This initiates a 30-day Leo cycle which is connected to our personal creativity and strength. Since this is a Solar Eclipse, we can also expect our shadow issues around power to leak into our conscious mind. We are all a bit of a tyrant in the right (or wrong) situation. At this time, you may come face-to-face with your inner tyrant. This brings up the following questions: How do you handle power? How allied is your individuality with your higher purpose? Do you have the confidence to live your life in accordance with your principles?
These are all big themes now, and for the next six months—until the next Solar Eclipse.
This Eclipse happens in Purva Phalguni Nakshatra, ruled by Bhaga, the God of delight. It is good to be king and very delightful indeed. Sometimes we may want to just be lazy and enjoy the luxury. Instead, we need to share the wealth with our kingdom which is represented by the other people in our lives; this is a potent metaphor now.
September 16
There will be a Lunar Eclipse in Aquarius/Pisces today as the Sun enters Virgo from Leo, in the opposite signs of Aquarius and Pisces. For the next six months there will be a lot of shifting of energy between our duties and our higher, mystical potential. As much as we need to perform our duties and service to the world (Aquarius), we must maintain clear sight of our higher, mystical nature (Pisces).
Universal love, tolerance, and remembrance of God are the most important facets of life. The reflection of the energies active at this time serve to remind us to harmonize the energy of Leo as it is transitioning into Virgo—where the power of the kingdom (in today’s case the government) creates many tasks and details that we must serve. Now is the time to organize, rearrange, and illuminate the details of your kingdom.
This Lunar Eclipse happens in Purva Bhadra Nakshatra, in Pisces. This Nakshatra brings a sense of hope and potential fanaticism to our life. However, it is also the first Nakshatra of death and rebirth, and where we can sense a disconnect between this world and the next.
September 18
On the heels of the recent Lunar Eclipse, today Venus enters Libra while Mars enters Sagittarius. It is rare for both of these plants to shift at the same time. Mars has been in Scorpio, off and on, since February. His shift into Sagittarius now brings more of a sense of greater righteousness to the fight, making us into warriors of truth until November 1. Also, Venus in Libra brings more harmony to our personal interactions, and reduces our feelings of crankiness and criticism. Overall, we should feel a sense of unburdening in our personal relationships over the next month, given these two transits.
September 22
Mercury turns direct in Leo, after having been in retrograde. You may have experienced some corrections in your life lately, especially related to communication. Now is a good time to unravel some of those difficulties. Don’t be afraid to reach out to others, especially if you need to clean up some messy interactions. Also, take this time now to develop clarity about the voice in your head and what its telling you.
September 24 – September 27
The Sun moves directly between the Earth and Jupiter, creating what is called combustion of Jupiter. This means the energy of Jupiter is passing through the rays of the Sun, where they are purified. Jupiter rules teachers, principals, and philosophies. At this time, we may experience frustration with those things or people. Be patient; this frustration is part of the purification process. For people who are teachers, recognize that students may be experience this frustration — but be heartened by the fact that this energy invigorates our lessons.
September 30
The Sun and Moon come together today in Virgo, forming a New Moon. This begins a 30-day cycle of scrutiny, attention to detail, and self-improvement. It’s a good time to organize both your internal and external life. The Moon is also very close to Jupiter, bringing a sense of optimism and hope to this process. Virgo is ruled by Mercury, the planet of discrimination, communication, and flexibility. These are very important themes for the next 30 days.
This New Moon happens in Hasta Nakshatra. Hasta means “hand,” showing the need to get “our hands dirty,” and change things for the better, in practical and useful ways. However, we must also cultivate detachment from the fruits of our effort for best results.
