In Recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness Month in April a number of LA-based conscious companies are coming together to raise funds with yogitoes® founder Susan Nichols. Nichols is reaching out to the community with the intention of growing a small grassroots campaign into a global campaign, much as the PINK campaign has served for breast cancer.
Susan Nichols was introduced to The Rape Foundation (which supports programs like Stuart House and the Rape Treatment Center at Santa Monica/UCLA Medical Center) three years ago as a result of being profoundly moved by what the Foundation President Gail Abarbanel had created – a place to heal and be empowered.
As Susan Nichols says: “If only my mother had access to such a facility when I was ten years old, after having been assaulted by a friend of my family’s, my teenage years would have unfolded differently. Back then, it was such a taboo to speak of; therefore it was silenced, and the irony is, it still goes unspoken on many levels. The vision I hold is to have a facility for every community to have access to, so we can educate and work to end this form of violence, and that is why I got involved with The Rape Foundation.”
