Try Kumquat Dishes at Santa Monica Restaurant Week
Kumquats. A humble, grape-sized citrus. Easily forgotten. Yet this Mediterranean climate fruit has a multifaceted flavor palate with a sweet peel and tart fruit. A myriad of health benefits accompany the taste, including Vitamin C and E, B vitamins, iron, magnesium, antioxidants, fiber, and more. And while the nutrition is a reason to include kumquats in some of your favorite dishes, the zippy taste brightens up a variety of menu items, at home or when going out to eat. These are some of the reasons why Santa Monica Travel & Tourism (SMTT) has chosen the kumquat to be the 2020 custom ingredient for Santa Monica Restaurant Week 2020 held from January 6-12.
“As a long-time resident of the beach city, Santa Monica Restaurant Week is one of my favorite times to enjoy our restaurant scene with friends and family, and I hope many of my neighbors do the same this year,” said Misti Kerns, President/CEO of SMTT.
Throughout the week-long celebration of all things kumquat, chefs from 37 Santa Monica area restaurants will be featuring unique menu items that include this seasonal fruit. Delicious culinary creations include appetizers, salads, vegetarian and non-vegetarian items, drinks, and desserts. Plan your culinary tour and taste with friends.

Felicia Tomasko has spent more of her life practicing Yoga and Ayurveda than not. She first became introduced to the teachings through the writings of the Transcendentalists, through meditation, and using asana to cross-train for her practice of cross-country running. Between beginning her commitment to Yoga and Ayurveda and today, she earned degrees in environmental biology and anthropology and nursing, and certifications in the practice and teaching of yoga, yoga therapy, and Ayurveda while working in fields including cognitive neuroscience and plant biochemistry. Her commitment to writing is at least as long as her commitment to yoga. Working on everything related to the written word from newspapers to magazines to websites to books, Felicia has been writing and editing professionally since college.
