I was wrapping up a Friday afternoon at work and I could not recall the details of
my week. Days and hours seemed to be passing in a blur. What if I could stay more connected to the present moment? That is precisely what the powerful documentary film Walk With Me illustrates — how to incorporate mindfulness into our day-to-day lives.

About the Film:Walk With Me

Evocatively narrated by Academy Award nominee Benedict Cumberbatch, the film provides a glimpse into the world of monastics who have left their lives behind to live with Zen Buddhist Master Thich Nhat Hanh in Plum Village in the French countryside. Filmed over three years, Walk With Me follows a community committed to living lives of simplicity as they learn and practice Hanh’s teachings.

At one point, Thich Nhat Hanh shares a song titled, “I Have Arrived. I Am Home.” He reminds everyone that “The practice of mindfulness is to always arrive. Arrive in the here and the now…we are always looking for something, searching for something, longing for something and we have not found it, and we continue to run.”

“The practice of mindfulness is to always arrive. Arrive in the here and the now…we are always looking for something, searching for something, longing for something and we have not found it, and we continue to run.”

The combination of Cumberbatch’s resonant voice, the beautifully filmed imagery, and the song, poetry, and teaching, all combine to create a fully immersive meditative experience. Walk With Me is for anyone who would like to be reminded of how to reconnect with the present moment. My biggest take away is that no matter our circumstance, we can incorporate mindfulness into our routine…even if it is only five minutes per day. Walk With Me opens in LA on September 9 at the Laemmle’s Ahrya Fine Arts Theater. Learn more at the website.
