LA YOGA ran a contest last month: tell us your favorite veggie spot and what you order and enter to win a copy of the Foodmatters DVD. Joni Yung is this month’s winner. She’s an avid biker, yogini, blogger and participant in the recent City Yoga 24-Hour Yogathon for Habitat for Humanity. Where does she eat? –– FMT
Joni Yung: Since I’ve been trying to live on a limited budget, the first place that came to mind was Govinda’s buffet off Venice Blvd near Culver City (where I can do an eat-all-you-can vegetarian feast for only $7.00, or even less if I choose to pay by weight), followed by India’s Sweets and Spices in Atwater village (where for about $5.00 I can get lunch, with enough leftover for a later meal).
But with gasoline costing as much as it does these days, and my effort trying to keep green by riding my bike, my next choice would be Real Food Daily in Santa Monica. I usually order the Basic 3 and choose either brown rice or quinoa, plus the veggie of the day, plus either tofu or seitan, then smother everything with one of their delicious sauces. It’s simple, it’s filling, it’s healthy, and it costs around $10.00 (which, sadly, is almost twice the price of the typical meal at a fast food restaurant!).
