A simple sentence grabbed our attention: “Sometimes our most profound, life-changing experiences happen far away from home.” This was the introduction for Billy and Patti Asad’s YogaWorks Couples Retreat at Sycamore Mineral Springs Resort. Under the Couple’s empathetic guidance, the program offered four yoga sessions interspersed with socializing, hiking, cycling and hot-tubbing.
Sycamore Mineral Springs Resort conjures images of spring-fed hot tubs tucked beneath a canopy of trees. Near Avila Beach and San Luis Obispo, this secluded oasis is a place for a romantic weekend getaway of immersion in warm mineral water and Restorative spa treatments. Guided hikes, bicycle rides through the forest, strolls to the beach, yoga, Pilates and t’ai chi are all available; the resort offers as much or as little relaxing and rejuvenating preoccupation that a couple desires.
Our room, called “Illustrious,” had a romantic four-post bed, living room, a shower with two showerheads and our favorite hotel indulgence, soft bathrobes. The intimate restaurant increased the resort’s appeal and generated gracious reviews from other couples on our retreat. The resort’s seamless organization and the encouraging and supportive Asads (who also made the yoga fun and playful) all contributed to the weekend’s enjoyment and reward.
