Winter Solstice: A Time of Reflection and Renewal

Winter Solstice has long been a magical time of year. As the light of the Sun begins a new solar cycle, the Earth’s Aura is revived in mystical ways, awakening a presence of Spirit. During the longest and darkest nights of the year, we can honor this time by allowing ourselves the space to reflect upon our innermost feelings and desires. This is a sacred time of rest and reflection, a space of nurturing and rejuvenation, a nourishing and cozy cocoon.

In the darkness of winter we rest and dream, as we gather strength for the season of renewal. Nature teaches us that drawing inward for a time is present in all living things. It is necessary for growth. When we acknowledge the gifts of Spirit we cultivate a greater capacity to receive our own inner light. During this Winter Solstice, we can honor the Divine Light within, that guides our way through times of darkness.

Many of us find winter to be challenging because we are getting so much less sunlight that our mental health suffers. Music, especially in the form of sound healing, can help to provide a vibrational lift during the long dark nights.

The Energy of Sound

Sound and light are both vibrational energies, and it is said that if a piano keyboard extended out indefinitely, eventually the keys would produce light rather than sound. To listen to music is to receive a form of energy that is related to light. Because of the denser nature of its waveforms, it can penetrate deeply into our bodies and help to balance the mind, soothe the heart, and uplift the soul.

Here’s a short Winter Solstice ceremony you can do at home.

  • Set up a simple altar with two candles and any other sacred items that are meaningful to you.
  • One of the candles represents the past year, and the other symbolizes the coming year.
  • On a piece of paper, write down anything you would like to release from the past year.
  • With gratitude, fold the paper and place it near the candle as you light it.
  • Close your eyes.
  • Take a deep breathe in.
  • As you exhale, release it to the Spirit of Fire.
  • Now open your awareness to dreaming and envisioning. What you would like to experience and manifest in the coming year. How big can you dream?
  • Write it on a piece of paper, fold it, and place it near the second candle as you light it.
  • Close your eyes.
  • Take a deep breathe in.
  • Feel deep gratitude for your journey and honor the lessons and growth you’ve experienced along the way.
  • As you exhale, release it to the Universe.
  • Expect Miracles.
